The Village Fajã da Ovelha
The chic coastal village of Fajã da Ovelha on the west coast of Madeira has existed since 1553, according to a document find, when the first inhabitants are said to have settled around the chapel dedicated to Sao Lourenco. Fajã da Ovelha is partly located on a rock. According to legend, this rock is supported by Saint Amaro to prevent the village from falling into the water.
From the Miradouro Pico dos Bodes viewpoint, you have a magnificent view of the surrounding landscape and especially of the Atlantic Ocean. More and more holidaymakers on Madeira are enjoying the peace and seclusion. A visit to the village is also worthwhile because you can still see an old but functioning sugar mill there. Around Faja da Ovelha there are also great hiking trails where you can explore the surroundings of the village or enjoy an evening walk in the light of the setting sun.
