Santa Cruz is one of the fast-growing regions on Madeira. The separate settlements, scattered in several municipalities, are located on the east coast of the island, about eight kilometres east of the island's capital Funchal. The area is considered one of the most beautiful areas on Madeira Island. Perhaps because it offers its visitors a little bit of everything: beautiful landscapes, pleasant climate, fabulous beaches, unique nature, fantastic sports facilities, excellent hotels and restaurants. Caniço, the largest municipality in Santa Cruz, is a place of pleasure, but also of relaxation. One of the strongest points of this municipality is the nature reserve in Garajau. This is the only marine reserve in the country, which offers incomparable conditions for snorkelling and diving due to its extraordinary biological richness and crystal clear waters. The place has good hotels and restaurants and still balances the most modern aspects with the rural side of the town.
